Extract From 'The Agora' ~ Australian Clarice Cliff Collectors Publication:
| Opalesque
‘Bruna’
Cake Plate in Opalesque ‘Bruna’ Whilst researching the Opalesque pattern range, the author received excerpts from the Newport pattern book No 1 in which this uncommon group of patterns is listed. The above pattern was of immediate interest as it is the same pattern as Inspiration ‘Garden’ (See The Rich Designs of Clarice Cliff ISBN 0-9526354-1-0 page 230). Clarice Cliff must have had an affection for this pattern for it appears as though this was the only Inspiration pattern to be re-introduced in the Opalesque range. It is well known that Clarice Cliff was inclined to rename a pattern when it was re-issued in a different colour way e.g. ‘Honolulu’ - ‘Rudyard’. However, this pattern appears to have been decorated using the same colours in both the Inspiration and Opalesque ranges. As Inspiration ‘Garden’ is only a working name it would be appropriate that this name be replaced with Inspiration ‘ Bruna’ in line with the name for this Opalesque pattern. Excerpt from Newport Pattern book No 1 PA/WN/45 c.193? is as follows: ©6415 Opal ware
Bruna
