"An Amazing Find"
** UPDATE **
(See the backstamps)
Original Article

Back in March '99 we told you about an 'Amazing Find' - Clarice Cliff's 1925 apprentice figurine. Since then, the figure has featured in the Wedgwood Centenary Exhibition with pride of place.

Following the publication of information about the figure on this Web-site and in other articles, some new and exciting details have come to light!

Andrew Casey, whilst researching information for his new book on 20th Century designers, found some important clues. I quote him: "I came across a description of a figure and made notes on the detail as follows- Girl Figure Patt. no 8022, wearing black waistcoat, hairband in blue, roses on hat. The major clue that I didn’t get until I visited the Wedgwood Exhibition next day was the drawing included in the file, of the pattern on the dress of bluebells."

Maureen & Harold-  'An Amazing Find: The Final Chapter'

At last, after more than eighteen months seeking further authentication on the figurine discovered in January 1998, our friend Andrew Casey, author of "Susie Cooper Ceramics. A Collectors Guide", who was researching for his new book in the Wilkinson files at Hanley, noticed an important entry in the archive.  This was in the Wilkinson description book of May 1925 onwards. He had recalled the detail from the information given on this Web-site.

The library supplied the copy with the kind permission of Wedgwood Ltd. The detail matches perfectly every feature on the figurine right down to the turquoise ring the lady is wearing. A beautiful ending to a beautiful story.

Many thanks to Andrew Casey and to Wedgwood for this information.
