What was planned to be ‘just a small local meeting’
on the Isle of Wight, ended up as an enjoyable day with 22 members and
guests, from the island and Hampshire! The cosy village hall at Wellow
on the western side of the Isle of Wight was the venue. Overseas collectors
should know that this is in the extreme south of Britain and is a very
‘English’ island, with rolling hills and a peaceful pace of life, well
worth a visit.
Helen, a local collector, ran the ‘show ands
tell’ which was based on a table full of Clarice Cliff pieces taken along
by members. One lucky collector had two examples of the very rare 'Fantasque
Triangle Flower', one of which was a variant on the design as it had 'Broth'
type circles incorporated into it! Len gave his Centenary lecture, we also
saw some slides from collections in New Zealand and Australia.
All the food was home made by a local member,
and ‘a good time was had by all’, to the extent, that we plan a further
C.C.C.C. meeting on the island in 2000. The club hopes to have more local
meetings, so please contact us at information@claricecliff.com
if you would like to have one in your home town!
