reports
on the wonderful selection of Clarice Cliff
in the 31
May sale
at Fielding's,
Stourbridge near Birmingham
Cataloguing
our first ALL Clarice Cliff sale has been one of the highlights of my career,
both as a collector and an auctioneer. I've had many great moments thanks
to my passion for ceramics: from going around the fairs from when I was
11, to presenting on BBC Antiques Roadshow not so many years later, to
setting up Fielding's here in Stourbridge, and now running a Clarice sale
in conjunction with the CCCC which I was a member of 20 years ago!
Looking
back over my dairy I’m shocked to see how quickly the months have flown
by. It was just SO exciting that I was able to draw together the perfect
mix of people to stage an ALL Clarice Cliff auction. What an incredible
change compared to when I went to the CCCC Convention as an over enthusiastic
14 year old!
From my
first meeting in 2007 at Len’s in Staffordshire to discuss the event, and
how we could create new ways to stage it, seems like only yesterday. Now,
I have catalogued all the pieces I've collected over the last few months,
literally going north, south, east and west covering thousands of miles
to secure many fantastic lots.
I’m delighted
to say that the sale I set out to bring you has come to fruition. I have
a great range of shapes and patterns that will quite literally suit all
pockets with estimates starting from £30.
We have
not one but four tea for two services in patterns from Blue Chintz to Solitude,
we have many Isis vases and Lotus jugs including a wonderful Sunray example
and a beautiful Farmhouse piece.
There’s
also a great range of Bonjour and Conical sugar sifters in a range of landscape
patterns and so many different vases from classic Crocus to Double V.
Andy Muir
has done the superb photographs, Len has written features for the catalogue
and I also have a few final surprises up my sleeve so the catalogue is
very special. Of course, CCCC members will get a complimentary copy in
May, plus if you book for the Convention an invitation to the very special
Private Preview.
You can
browse the images of select pieces from the sale using the arrow controls
on the Fantasque Flash presentation.
The sale is
on view Thursday 29 May 10am until 4pm, Friday 30 May 10am to 4pm (CCCC
Private view 5.30 to 8-30pm), and Saturday 31 May from 9am until the sale
starts at Noon.
